Oakland First Fridays Festival - January 2017 Line Up

Oakland First Fridays

11th Anniversary Event + Ghostship Tribute
January 6th, 2017 - 5:00pm - 9:30pm

Come reflect, mourn, heal with those you love, and let’s celebrate the life and ART of our community and those we have lost.

Our hearts go out to Oakland’s creative community and those who have been heavily impacted by the Oakland Fire. The collective loss of life, shelter, and livelihood is an unimaginable tragedy.
In light of this very challenging time, we would like to pay tribute to Oakland’s Creative Community, by dedicating our 11th Anniversary Event to celebrating the life and art of the vibrant creatives, survivors and victims from the Ghostship Collective.

Oakland First Fridays will not be collecting any funds for Ghostship relief, but we will have representatives form existing relief funds present at the tribute, to speak about specific community needs, raise visibility of immediate campaigns, and to collect donations for much needed relief and community support.
We urge our community to widley share and utilize this master list of community resources and relief funds providing support to those most impcated by the Ghostship Fire: http://bit.ly/master-support-list
Please also support and share this fund put together by BG Anaraki who will be performing at our tribute tomorrow:
"This fund may look like it has enough money in it, but it is completely allocated at this this point. Were really in need. This fund was originally started with a fb post that I made to cover the rent of my late room mate, and the rent of the others lost who had not paid yet (the incident was 2 days b4 the last day to pay rent, which is when us weirdos/freaks pay) and the outpouring was to overwhelming for me so I delegated the responsibility to a group of very responsible, organized individuals who are assessing the needs of the chosen family/friends who lost up to dozens of friends, including roommates, band mates, and romantic partners. Much of the fund has been directed to continue paying the rent for our lost loved ones rooms, so their grieving housemates don't have to clear out/find an occupant for these rooms before their grieving process allows for it, pay lost wages for people who were to grief stricken to work (and even wages for an entire business, owned by Aras roommates/band mate and entirely staffed by ppl who who cared deeply for her that had to be closed for over a week) and more."

The Oakland Warehouse Coalition will be with us in our tribute area tonight. Theyre organizing an important call to action to pass an Emergency Tenant Protection Ordinance that will prevent the displacement of Oakland residents and artists. We need EVERYONES help to make this happen!

Field Trip Projects by Tra Bouscaren 5:00pm - 9:10pm

Tra Bouscaren works at the intersection interactive video, found-object sculpture/architecture, and the performative public.  He takes the world itself as a projection of found object/images through which he must act and re-project.  In the case of his public projection works--the "Ghost Shows" series--overlooked corners of the urban fabric are appropriated as the substrate for a projection-mapped bath of interactive video.  Invoking Freud's conception of "psychological projection", Bouscaren pulls multiple live surveillance feeds of passers-by (in this case public passers-by) and projects mashups of their own video images straight back onto the architecture that is before them.  Combining these all-too-live-and-local feeds with GIS remote- imaging, drone footage, and poached live webcams from around the world, Bouscaren's investigation into surveillance is served with dark humor.
