Oakland First Fridays Festival
One of the cultural partners of Oakland First Fridays is Oakland Art Murmur (OAM), a collection of galleries and mixed-use venues many of which are open First Friday evenings. The range of artistic exhibitions is inspiring. Most of the venues are open from 6–9 pm. Many of the galleries are adjacent to the Telegraph Avenue site of Oakland First Fridays on 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th Streets going east toward the hills.

The mission of the Oakland Art Murmur is to support art and cultural venues that are dedicated to increasing popular awareness of and participation in the arts of Oakland. Oakland Art Murmur's galleries support Oakland’s arts community on a grand scale, showcasing nearly 1,000 local and national artists in 200 exhibitions each year.
Cultural Partner

Many member galleries also participate in the weekly Saturday Stroll, when 18 galleries and 7 mixed-use venues are open every Saturday from 1–5 pm. Galleries also host free cultural programs such as receptions, artist talks, lectures, musical performances, and literary readings on Saturdays.

OAM offers a monthly Guided Walking Tour, on the third Saturday of each month, when a gallery director or other prominent member of the Oakland Art Community takes visitors to 3-5 galleries for presentations from curators or artists about their current shows. Tours are themed and take place 2–4pm.

Mission

To preserve Oakland First Fridays as an all inclusive, safe and vital community-driven platform to showcase  the emerging artists, makers, gourmet food vendors, musicians, cypher circles (dance battles, spoken word), drumming circles, acrobats, magicians, and many uniquely talented street performers and their audience.

Vision

We strive to be the premier Oakland First Fridays Event as the epicenter for the community to come together to celebrate, sustain & support the arts.

Event History

In 2006, Rock Paper Scissors, a collective of art gallery owners now known as Art Murmur, created a once a month art gallery walk which included “The 23rd Street Fair.” This fair exploded into what is today’s Oakland First Fridays: the most renowned art, music, food and cultural community event in the Bay Area.

In 2013, the KONO CBD non-profit organization assumed responsibility for producing the event each month.
